Boost Auto's principal is Anthony MacLean, an award-winning senior executive with nearly 30 years of automotive experience in vehicle sales and marketing.
‘I dream about crisp action manual gearboxes and shut lines. At least that is what my family would say about me. Even since I can remember, I have had a passion for wheels attached to an engine. It doesn’t matter if it has two or four wheels, chances are I have the magazine and the YouTube channel set as a favourite.’
Originally from the UK, Anthony commenced his automotive career as a sales executive for a large dealer group where he was consistently one of the top performers. He used these skills to move into retail training and change management for Skoda when VW Group was extending its shareholding in the then re-emerging brand. Marketing qualified, Anthony held senior marketing roles for Skoda and Volkswagen, where his campaigns won a large number of marketing effectiveness and creative awards.
After a move to New Zealand with his Kiwi wife, he has held senior leadership roles responsible for marketing and sales across the automotive industry. This includes Nissan NZ, Blue Wing Honda, Tourism Holdings (THL) and Mercedes-Benz. Most recently Anthony was inspired to take a chance with a start-up business and became the Country Manager for MG in New Zealand.
Re-established the MG brand in NZ, achieving 3.1% market share and Top 10 position.
Managed the vehicle sales division at THL during the GFC transforming its sales performance.
As Strategic Planner and Account Lead for the BMW and MINI account in a boutique marketing agency, he created a data-driven programme that won multiple marketing effectiveness awards.
Running the LCV division for Mercedes-Benz, including the launch of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class, where he consistently built volume and market share.
He created the MG business from scratch with only a laptop, twenty-five years of lessons learned and a plan. In just over two years, he had created a top 10 brand,* besting a number of better-known brands including Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi, BMW and MINI by volume. He created a thriving business with 13 high-quality dealers across the country and achieved 3.1% market share. He also launched NZ's newest and best selling BEV.
